Hôtel Tadoussac : Quebec inn celebrates 66 years

Hotel Tadoussac, Quebec

If the Hôtel Tadoussac looks familiar, it’s because many of the outdoor scenes for the 1984 film Hotel New Hampshire were shot here. Based on the popular John Irving novel of the same name, it starred Jodie Foster, Rob Lowe and Beau Bridges. This year, Hôtel Tadoussac celebrates 66 years, and summer is a beautiful time to visit this scenic area of Quebec.

Located in one of the oldest villages in Canada, Hôtel Tadoussac sits on one of the “thirty most beautiful bays in the world,” right at the entrance to the Saguenay Fjord. I visited Tadoussac four summers ago while on a tour of the Quebec Lighthouse Trail, and although I didn’t stay at the hotel, I spent time poking around the 149-room landmark property.

Not only are the hotel and grounds lovely, the 60-mile long Saguenay Fjord is a nature lover’s playground. In summer, 13 species of whales come to the fresh water fed fjord, using it for their feeding grounds. The hotel has put together a number of packages that include both indoor and outdoor activities:

Kayak Discovery Package combines a one-night stay at Hôtel Tadoussac with a Charlevoix-inspired buffet dinner featuring fresh seafood and local savory specialties, a full breakfast and a three-hour kayaking adventure. From $154 CDN per person, based on double occupancy.

Surf the Saguenay Waves Package includes one night’s accommodation, dinner, full breakfast, a six-hour Saguenay Fjord cruise and onboard lunch. From $188.50 CDN per person, based on double occupancy.

Other packages include romantic interludes and family getaways, with prices from $87 CDN per person.
