From Anne at Papilles et Pupilles – mon httpblog, the 6th edition of “Bordeaux fete le vin” (Bordeaux Celebrates Wine) was held last month at the biggest festival in Europe, the “Place des Quinconces,” and on Garonne’s piers in downtown Bordeaux.
This festival takes place every other year, alternating with the river festival. “Bordeaux fête le vin” covers a space as wide as 12 hectares (29 acres), with various houses entirely dedicated to the festival and to the pleasure of wine tasting.
This year, a great auction of exceptional wines also took place in the lounges of the Chamber of Commerce: 40 years of Chateau Yquem, years 1933 to 1986, (including one Chateau Yquem 1937 estimated at 1,250 Euros), 43 batches of Mouton Rothschild, (including 1 bottle estimated at 2,400 Euros) and many other legendary bottles as well.
The sale had a lot of success considering the high levels of bidding.
A box containing four high-class wines of Bordeaux was recorded as the highest value, and no less than 51,000 Euros was spent to acquire an exceptional batch made up for the occasion, composed of 4 Magna rated 100/100 by Robert Parker (one magnum of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1945, one magnum of Chateau Lafleur 1947, one magnum of Chateau Cheval Blanc 1947, and one magnum of Chateau Petrus 1947). The next edition of “Bordeaux fete le vin” will be held in 2008.
