Sip Fine Wines and Spirits :: Denver, Colorado

Denver New boutique wine shops seem to open with more and more frequency, each offering fine wines, personable and knowledgeable staff, tasting bars and the same muted décor that makes it hard to distinguish one from another.

Sip Fine Wine & Spirits, Denver’s newest wine shop, tries to stand above the competition by virtue of its location and its service. The shop is opening in the city’s Ballpark Neighborhood to offer the area’s growing number of residents and businesses an attractive, comfortable, knowledgeable place to learn about, taste and purchase fine wines and liquors.

Located at 1920 Market Street, Sip is a block from the Coors Field baseball stadium, a few more blocks from renovated lofts and new high-rise apartments and an equal distance from the heart of the LoDo (Lower Downtown) neighborhood with its nightclubs, boutiques and restaurants. The nearest competitors are tiny liquor stores left from the area’s pre-gentrification days.

The proximity to new residences as well as the city’s Central Business District led Sip’s management team to offer delivery to corporate clients, catered events and local residents. For those in a hurry, Sip also offers curbside pickup.

The shop softly lights the earthy terra cotta-colored block walls whose recesses hold most of the more than 3,000 different wines, spirits and artisanal beers. Shelves and carousels of wine bottles fill out the 3,000-square-foot space. A tasting bar will host food pairings with local chefs and private events as well as regular tastings to help customers find the perfect wine for their needs or try something out of their ordinary preferences.

Sip is the result of mixing one man’s business acumen with another’s wine and restaurant experience. Founder and President James Rice worked in the banking industry, the Lear Corp. and Motorola. Paul Tocco, general manager and head sommelier, has 16 years of food and wine industry experience, including managing restaurants in New York City, the Hamptons on Long Island and in Phoenix.
