Sample Popular Classicos from Chianti
Looking for a nice Chianti? We came across the Chianti Classicos and were rather impressed with its’ remarkable history. It became an official wine region in the year, 1716. For the wine only sangiovese grapes were allowed. The Chianti area is divided into eight different sub-areas including Classico as well as Rufina. Chianti Classicos have achieved the best reputation.
First up…the 2005 Rocco delle Macie Chianti Classico. It has the aroma of black currants, cola, dried fruit, wet limestone, and nutmeg. In the mouth, it feels young and tight and has an elegant texture. It is powerful but delicate at the same time. Okay now spit that out…
Your next sample should be the 2005 Ruffino Tenuta Santedame Chianti Classico. You will be able to smell mushrooms, cherries, moist soil, plums, chocolate, pepper, violets, and tealeaves. In the mouth, you will taste flavors of plums and black cherries. It also has a strong metallic element. I would recommend drinking an entire glass of this one, or perhaps sharing a bottle with someone.
