Road Trip: Breckenridge, CO to Moab, UT

We left the gorgeously green mountains of Colorado to drive to the red hot desert of Utah. In about 300 miles, we saw markedly different terrain and weather, leaving 9600 feet (about 3200 meters) of elevation and temps in the 60s and arriving in Moab at 4600 feet (about 2200 meters) and 95 degree white hot sunshine.

The best way to cool off? Get in a swimming pool or see the Colorado River from the water (see tomorrow’s story). In Moab, there’s no shortage of ways to explore the desert’s two most popular attractions: Arches National Park (photo shown) and Canyonlands National Park. You can drive to each and hike, take a 4-wheel drive trip in a Hummer, a 2-wheel mountain bike expedition, river raft or jet boat. You can also visit Dead Horse Point State Park.
