The MiG-31 (‘Foxhound’) is one of the highest flying aircraft in the world, the view from close to 70,000 feet (21,000m) is simply breathtaking, with the darkness of space above and to your sides with pronounced curvature of the Earth clearly visible.
The location: 300 kilometres from Moscow, at the Sokol Aircraft Plant in the practically unpronounceable Russian town of Nizhny Novgorod, where the security-cleared participants will be escorted onto an aircraft plant that employs some of the world’s finest pilots and supplies premier military aircraft to more than 30 countries around the world.
The trip: The 5-day trip begins with a night in a 5-star Moscow hotel, next to Red Square and the Kremlin. Transfers to the aircraft plant at Nizhny Novogorod, Russia’s third largest city sitting at the intersection of the Volga and Oka rivers and just a few hours flying time from Moscow, can be made by VIP six-passenger plane, rail or road.
A pilot’s licence and/or previous experience are not a prerequisite for flyers. The English-speaking pilots are among the world’s top test pilots; and will be in constant communication via the intercom system.
The flight: Typically around 50 minutes long the flight includes a period of flying at twice the speed of sound.
