When you All-Aboard the historic Royal Gorge Route Railroad’s special dinner train this summer you can enjoy a five course dinner where each course is paired with different local varietals. Each month will highlight a specific winery: Grande River Vineyards on June 23, Plum Creek Winery on July 21, Canyon Wind Cellars on August 18, and Boulder Creek Winery on September 15.
During the meal, each wine will be paired with delicious entrees served by executive chef Jeff McGlothin. Jeff and the winemaker from the featured vineyard will be on board the train to answer any questions guests may have about what goes on behind the scenes in the kitchen or the vineyard. Winemaker Dinner Seating for the four Winemaker’s Dinner Train departures is limited, and is $125 for the dinner car and $150 for those who prefer to dine surrounded by glass in the upper level Vista Dome cars.

I did not think that it was near worth the $200 my Husband and I spent….neither did he! You get on the train, and you are seated with strangers…….being told that the side you were on was “more scenic” and the other side was a wall of rock. Well, they are both walls of rock, just the first side also had views of the trashy housing, The Arkansas River, and people fishing. The train stopped after an hour in, sat for about 20 min. Then went backwards to complete the 2 hour train journey. The food was very dry, the chicken being inedible, but the cheesecake was excellent and the service was quite impeccable!!! But the drive to get to the Royal Gorge Railway, was much more exciting!!!!! I reccomend a hike or just go to the bridge itself and take the gondola ride…..railway was dissappointing for the cost.
