Diego Zhang’s Burger Café (www.diegozhangs.com) offers more than a dozen mini-burgers representing flavors from around the world. The two-ounce burgers mix the flavoring in with the ground meat: chicken with pesto and red peppers; turkey with most of the Thanksgiving trimmings; buffalo with green chiles. There’s basic beef with nothing but sea salt and pepper or beef with bacon, sautéed mushrooms and onions; pork with barbecue sauce; Thai shrimp; chicken with chimichurri; and salmon unlike any burger my grandmother made from canned fish.
One burger is a nice snack; two a great lunch; three paired with a salad or soup a full meal.
The best part of the burger tasting menu is that the little bites are priced at $2.50 to $3.25 each.
The restaurant takes going green seriously, from the products used in the décor to the quality of the food’s ingredients. The burgers and other menu items are made from natural Harris Ranch beef, Red Bird Farms chicken, Niman Ranch pork, all-natural buffalo, and wild salmon.
Diego Zhang’s restaurant concept grew from his childhood love of burgers and his live-long love of culinary travel. The two came together when he was sitting in a Barcelona tapas bar, watching patrons sample a variety of foods in small bites. He returned to Denver and started experimenting with “globally inspired mini-burgers.”
Diego Zhang’s, located on East Arapahoe Road in Centennial, Colorado, is open Mondays through Saturdays for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
