Top Ten Summer Attractions :: Canada

Where Canada Magazine has selected its top ten attractions for Canadian summer travel in 2007.

Many are brand new; others have been renovated or are celebrating significant milestones.

Top 10 New Attractions for Summer 2007 (in alphabetical order):

1. Atlantic Jazz Festival, Halifax, Nova Scotia: One of Atlantic Canada’s biggest musical events has added three new concert series this year.

2. Dynamic Earth at Science North, Sudbury, Ontario: The newly expanded sister attraction to Sudbury’s renowned science centre takes visitors on an adventure to the depths of the earth.

3. Galaxy Orbiter at Galaxyland, Edmonton, Alberta: This brand new roller coaster marks the biggest addition to the West Edmonton Mall amusement park since it opened in 1985.

4. Jasper Discovery Trail, Canadian Rockies, Alberta: Two years in the making, Jasper Discovery Trail debuts this summer, just in time for Jasper National Park’s 100th anniversary celebration.

5. The Red River, Winnipeg, Manitoba: Recently designated as a heritage river, the 877-kilometre Red River offers a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages.

6. The Rideau Canal, Ottawa, Ontario: The world-famous canal, which was selected as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in June, celebrates its 175th anniversary this summer.

7. Royal BC Museum, Victoria, British Columbia: New additions and must-see travelling shows reinforce the museum as a world-class attraction.

8. Michael Lee-Chin Crystal at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Ontario: After almost five years, the Daniel Libeskind-designed Michael Lee-Chin Crystal is now open at Canada’s largest museum.

9.Skyline at Canada Olympic Park, Calgary, Alberta: This new adventure ride takes visitors up a platform ninety metres high and sends them hurtling down a 500-metre long cable for a heart-pounding experience.

10. Vancouver Lookout, Vancouver, British Columbia: The newly renovated observation deck at British Columbia’s tallest building lets visitors take in 360-degree views of city.
