The 7 Question Interview – Chef Justin Kurtz – Babette’s Cafe – Atlanta, GA
If you have heard of Babette’s Cafe, it is time to give a whirl. Some folks know it just for their incredible brunch, but they have a very loyal neighborhood following for a reason. We had the pleasure of chatting with their chef Justin Kurtz. He was kind enough to answer our ‘7 Questions’. They have an incredibly high ranking on TripAdvisor and Opentable awarded them an award for Diner’s Choice in 2016.
What is your earliest memory of loving food?
My first day at noodles cafe in Naples, fl at 16. Seeing pasta being made from scratch and served to guest for the first time.
What was the first dish you perfected?
I remember a Tomato Pizza Cobb Salad from the pool bar at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando in 2003 that I could probably make today, with 20 tickets hanging.
If you could only choose five(5) ingredients to cook with for one month what would they be?
Thyme, garlic, salt, butter, and pig.
What is your favorite breakfast?
Egg Benedict
Name three(3) people you would love to have cook for you?
Marco Pierre White, Grant Achatz, and of course Thomas Keller
What is the most important decision you have ever made?
Probably moving back east to Georgia from California. Left a long time mentor and went out on my own.
If you had one meal left on this earth, what would it be and who would you enjoy it with?
Parrillada at Mercado del Puerto in Montevideo, Uruguay with my wife and her family from there.
