Sunset Magazine’s Top Ten Boutique Hotels in the West

Whenever I spy a Top Ten list in a publication, I always check to see if I’ve experienced it.

In Sunset Magazine’s new list of the Top Ten Favorite City Boutique Hotels in the West I’ve stayed at three: Portland’s White House Bed & Breakfast in Oregon; Pensione Nichols Bed & Breakfast in Seattle and Fairholme Manor in Victoria, British Columbia.

This summer, I checked out Honolulu’s New Otania Kaimana Beach Hotel, which is also on the list. I wasn’t very impressed — it seemed somewhat of a tired property. I much preferred the nearby The Lotus-Diamond Head.

The others on Sunset’s Top Ten list include Hotel Drisco, San Franciso; Hotel Teatro, Denver; Inn at Playa Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, California; Hotel 43, Boise, Idaho; The Inn of the Five Graces, Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Renaissance Las Vegas Hotel in Nevada.
