Deluxe, Airy Luxury :: Jade Mountain Resort, St. Lucia

I visited St. Lucia about 20 years ago when I boarded a Windjammer Barefoot Cruise on a 200-foot-long tall ship for a one-week sail around five islands. It was pure heaven.

But the new Jade Mountain Resort, which opened in December 2006, makes any other St. Lucia vacation pale in comparison. High on Morne Chastanet and overlooking the Piton World Heritage site and the Caribbean below, it offers a new and exclusive futuristic resort within Anse Chastanet’s resort. Each of its 25 posh suites face the setting sun, are called “infinity pool santuaries,” offer no fourth wall, and all have been booked for months in advance.

The co-owner, Karolin Troubetzkoy, says: “It’s sort of like Battlestar Galactica up there, isn’t it?? Her husband Nick, a Russian Canadian architect, actually designed the resort without a fourth wall. In other words, everything facing west is open air, sans screens, windows or doors, and that includes your showers and toilets.

Rates for the Sun Rooms are $1,470/night at high season.
Moon and Sun Rooms go for $950 and up.
And these prices include NO TVs, phones, or Wi-Fi. Just a sea of tranquility, which is perhaps reward enough for all your hard work throughout the year’s other 51 weeks.
