Sugar-Coated Rum: Boca Loca “Crazy Lips” Cachaça, Brazil

I just received a sample bottle of Boca Loca, “Crazy Lips” Cachaça. Which I have to admit, happily stuck in my wine-rut, I wasn’t so sure what it was. So I read the PR release which said:

“Cachaça is Brazilian liquor made from distilled sugar cane juice. So is rum, but rum is made from molasses while Cachaça is made straight from the juice of unrefined sugar cane, left to ferment in vats made of wood, or often copper, boiled down three times to get a sticky concentrate, and distilled in such a way that the scent of sugar cane is kept. Cachaça is also the third most consumed liquor in the world.” www.drinkbocaloca.com

The most popular cocktail made with Cachaça is the Capirinha, the national drink of Brazil –– and it just so happened that I had a a lime and sugar so I whipped myself up a:
Traditional Caipirinha
(pronounced kie-purr-REEN-yah)

1 1/2 oz BOCA LOCA
1 lime
2 teaspoons sugar

Clean and cut a lime into eight wedges. Place the lime and sugar into your glass and mash the ingredients together.
Add ice equal to your glass then add the BOCA LOCA. It’s important to keep stirring to keep the sugar mixed well.

Now this is what I call an “energy drink”. Loved the smoothness and the subtle floral nose. I can’t wait to try making the Mojito, or the “Bloody Lip” –– sounds perfect for a Super Bowl bash. See www.drinkbocaloca.com for more fun recipes.

Does anyone besides me find the way they are marketing their product totally offensive? I’ve tried this cachaca and I did not care for it at all but it’s the first time that I’m seeing their site and it’s ridiculuos! Yes sex has always been used to sell alcohol but this is pushing it way too far! So where are the half naked brazilian men?

  3. Janice says:

Aw…c’mon Leah….lighten up….or better yet–have a drink. At least they didn’t call it Crazy Buns!

I recently lookede at the website and think that it’s just that, a website. Leah, you choose to look at it, if its not your cup of cachaca. Oh, and for the record, we love the cachaca (rum), try it in place of Tequila for a margarita, you won’t be disappointed.
