With the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approaching, life hasn’t improved much for many of the residents who lost 125,000 homes in the devasted Lower Ninth Ward neighborhood.
A story in today’s SF Chronicle tells the so sad story: “A year later, few of these houses have been made habitable. Although some better-off landowners live outside the city while they repair their ravaged homes, thousands of New Orleans families are jammed into fewer than 18,550 trailers the Federal Emergency Management Agency has set up next to the gutted shells of their old homes or in makeshift trailer parks set up on gravel-strewn wastelands.” Read the whole story.
