Interested in going back in time and making whiskey the way it was made in the 1880s? Then take a trip to the Bruichladdich Whiskey Distillery on the island of Islay located off the west coast of Scotland.
This restored Victorian distillery offers visitors a chance to make their own whiskey at the Whiskey Academy. There is room for up to 6 people at a time at the Academy‘s week long course.. ‘Students’ shadow the distillery employees during the day and sleep at the Old Distillery Managers House at night. Along the way, they learn the step of old fashioned whiskey production, complete with vintage machinery. One day you’re mashing, the next distilling. Not to mention drinking and evaluating what makes a good malt whiskey.
The Academy is open in 2007 from March to October. Each week long course runs from Monday to Friday at a cost of 795 pounds per person.
