Sleep with the Fishes

A new underwater luxury hotel is set to open in October of 2006 in Dubai, Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates. At Hydropolis, the pipe dream of German Architect Joachim Hauser, a one night stay will cost around US $5,500. According to our friends at The Online Insider the hotel will offer 220 rooms 66 feet below the surface on the floor of the Persian Gulf. Each bubble-shaped suite will feature clear plexiglass walls in the sleeping areas and screens for watching the sea life with adjustable lights.

Although groundbreaking, Hydropolis is not the world’s first underwater hotel. That title is claimed by Jule’s Underwater Lodge a former research lab turned hotel off Key Largo, FL that caters to divers.
