Day Three

We were a little sad to leave the peacefulness of Lake county, but we cheered up immediately when we entered our last inn, 1801 First, (conveniently located walking distance to just about everything in the town of Napa,) and were graciously greeted with a flute of champagne and an amuse bouche. This lovely boutique inn, a Queen Anne Victorian built in 1903 by architect William Corlett, is the epitome of tastefulness.( I would kill to have the owner, Darcy Tunt, come decorate my home!) Darcy managed to seamlessly combine the best from the past, featuring rounded bay windows, high ceilings, courtyard gardens and unique architectural appointments with non-jarring luxury present day touches; gas fireplaces adjacent to oversized Jacuzzi tubs, heavenly beds with Egyptian cotton linens, wireless connectivity, in-room spa treatments, even a bedside tray sporting three luscious homemade infused truffles (My suggestion: offer four chocolates so couples can avoid fighting over the last one!)

Other welcoming touches: Breakfast (I chose the totally scrumptious goat cheese soufflé but still managed to fit in Chef Susan’s homemade breads and buttery croissant) is offered at different times and you may choose your selections the night before. In the evening, guests can enjoy one classy happy hour where complimentary boutique wines are paired with delectable appetizers, and sometimes the winemaker even attends to guide you through a private tasting.

Accommodations choices include five spacious suites located in the main house, two private cottages, or the top-of-the-line deluxe 500 sq.ft. Carriage house, which would make a perfect romantic hideaway! I definitely am a fan of Darcy’s, so I was excited to hear that she is close to closing a deal on a new wine country inn. Word is that this one will be totally different, still luxurious but much more hip and contemporary.

Oh gee, guess I’ll just have to plan a return visit!
