Feed Your Skin: Spa Treatments Good Enough to Eat, Canada

Sweet, savory, spicy or fruity: Canadian spas have come up with treatments that tease the taste buds, but work from the outside in to heal, polish and nurture your skin:

• At Summit Lodge’s Taman Sari Spa in Whistler, B.C., the Royal Javanese combo includes a head-to-toe Javanese massage, Lulur herbal/spice body scrub, scalp massage, Merapi Volcano organic mud body wrap and luxurious traditional facial with extracts of sunflower. Between treatments, your royal thirst is slaked with Indonesian natural herbal drinks or 50 loose-leaf teas from around the world. (4-5 hours $410.)

• Maple syrup and cranberries are the special ingredients at Taboo Resort’s Indulgence Spa in Muskoka, Ontario. The Cranberry-Maple Body Polish uses a luxuriously moisturizing and soothing B. Kamins Maple Sugar Body Scrub, containing natural anti-oxidant vitamins, AHA acids and essential mineral salts. After you’ve been sanded to maple taffy smoothness, you soak in an aromatic cranberry Jacuzzi bath. Finally, a liberal layer of cranberry body lotion is applied. Delivered in the spa’s spectacular lakefront suite, this treatment is better than an high-calorie dessert. (60 minutes, $110.)

• The Body Quench massage at the Hyatt Stillwater in Calgary is almost like rolling in rich, fruit-flavored frosting. It features body butters that deliver pure hydration and smell heavenly with choices that include essences of pomegranate and cranberry, mango and mandarin and green tea and lime leaf. (90 minutes, $160.)

• For a healthy, wholesome treat there’s the apple menu at The Spa at Keltic Lodge in Ingonish Beach, Nova Scotia. Using the famous Annapolis Valley harvest, there’s a bushel of offerings, including the delicious Apple Polisher Pedicure. It begins with a milk and honey soak, followed by an apple pie exfoliation scrub with raw sugar, cinnamon, apple extract and natural oils. Lean back and sip a hot mug of apple cider as your toes get painted a candy-apple red. Sweet! (60 minutes, $70.)
