As Washington’s oldest, most historic saloon, it was founded in 1856 a few blocks away. Today, housed in a Beaux-Arts building a block from the White House, it’s a virtual saloon Smithsonian.
Zagat’s Survey calls The Old Ebbitt Grill “a noisy maelstrom of politicians, wanna-bes and average tourists.” But having eaten here several times over the years, I call it “great food, terrific atmosphere, wonderful wooden bar, 10-foot ceilings, and great people watching.”
