Dine Under The Stars: Old Ebbitt Grill, Wash., D.C.
What do Dr. J, Danny Glover, David Spade, Chief Justice Scalia, the Bush Twins and me have in common? We were all served by the same waiter at The Old Ebbitt Grill. As Washington’s oldest, most historic saloon, it was founded in 1856 a few blocks away. Today, housed in a Beaux-Arts building a block from the White House, it’s a virtual saloon Smithsonian.
Zagat’s Survey calls The Old Ebbitt Grill “a noisy maelstrom of politicians, wanna-bes and average tourists.” But having eaten here several times over the years, I call it “great food, terrific atmosphere, wonderful wooden bar, 10-foot ceilings, and great people watching.”
Owned and operated by Clydes of Georgetown fame, The Old Ebbitt has a raw bar, spectacular seafood choices, a long wine list, and everything you could want in a restaurant. Make it a must-see during your next visit to DC: The Old Ebbitt Grill, 675 15th Street, NW, Washington, DC 2005 (Between F & G), (202) 347-4801. Complimentary Valet Parking After 6pm Weekdays & after 8:30 am Sundays. Also, check out Ebbitt Express for breakfast and lunch fare to go.
