A Dessert That Dreams Are Made Of! Amalia, New York

Although I wasn’t able to stay at the new Dream Hotel, we were able to dine at their new restaurant Amalia, named after Sigmund Freud’s mother and located adjacent to the Dream Hotel. The decor has a little bit of everything going on, but was suprisingly cozy, and we loved the warm pillar candles flickering from their dugouts in the exposed brick walls.

The coastal Mediterranean menu yielded dishes like warm Duck-Confit-Stuffed Dates with dried-fig mostarda and serrano ham, succulent sauteed and Crispy Calamari flavored with bits of chorizo and piquillo peppers. The standout was the Chorizo Stuffed Chicken topped with a romesco sauce, escarole, almonds and pickled raisins.

Much too full for dessert, we almost did not heed our waiters advice to share the Bittersweet Chocolate Ganache Tart, oozing just a hint of sea-salted caramel and malted chocolate semi-freddo… which would have been a major mistake.

Instead of after-dinner mints, when you are leave, be sure to sneak a handful of the bar snacks– a totally addictive salty-sweet caramel corn concoction.
