1787 vintage Sauternes from Château Yquem

Can you imagine that a most expensive bottle of white wine was sold at a London auction at the price of US$100,000 or GBP 55,000. It was the 1787 vintage Sauternes from Château Yquem. True wine lovers can go this far to possess their favorite brand of wine. This is a rare quality of vintage wine and the wine lovers consider it as their prized possession. People are speculative about the taste of this two hundred years old vintage wine.

Château Yquem tastes sweet and is made in Bordeaux from totally shrunken up, late harvested grapes. It has the concentration that allows it to mature for many years, even for centuries. Besides the taste, the enjoyment of wine as old as this one is an extremely nostalgic experience. In 1787, when peasants in Bordeaux were picking these grapes, George Washington became the first President of the United States, the French Revolution began, George III was King of England and James Watt was developing the steam engine. Amazing!

Well what can I say. I purchased this rather spectacular bottle of 1787 vintage Sauternes from Château Yquem back in 2002. I have had it stored in a beautifully carved, oak wood trunk, which I bought on my travels through Kenya back in 1989. I got it out the other evening, and it went down a storm! It had the most beautiful taste and it really felt special whilst we were drinking it. If another comes up on the market in the near future, I would really recommend ‘snapping it up’ if you can excuse my French!!! A jolly good drink and not too pricey.
On second thoughts, ‘cut the crap’… it was seriously, a MASSIVE waste of money.
Just pop down to Sainsburys and buy a Sainsburys Basics bottle of vodka, and get absolutely HAMMERED. Much more worth the money!!!!
    On that note I leave.
