From Japan, With Love: True Sake Store, San Francisco

The True Sake store is the first of its type in America. The store is in the fashionable Hayes Valley district of San Francisco. The owner, Beau Timken, is a professional sake taster and sake sommelier. His passion for sake, and dream of sharing sake with the world, started over a decade ago in South Africa.

“I met a group of Japanese fishermen who were drinking their own premium sake that they had brought into the local sushi restaurant… (They) explained I was consuming… inferior hot sake. That day represented the official First Day of my passion and obsession for learing all things sake.”

Today, he has a thriving store, regularly scheduled tastings, a fascinating enewsletter, and ships to some states in the US.
