I’m posting a lot about terroir. Maybe because I’m in France at the moment, and there seems to be a near-religious reverence as to the actual geographical provenance of the wine. The other day I took a bottle of St. Emilion to the neighbours when I joined them for dinner and they were reverently nodding…Oui, St. Emilion, c’est bon! Even before popping the cork. Fortunately the nods continued after we tasted the wine. Delicious.
There always seems to be disagrement on terroir, what it is, is it really a factor to wine quality? There is even going to be a conference at UC Davis to throw light (we hope) on the matter. ..Vinography
