Walls of Fame: Hotel Des Arts, San Francisco

Mesh Magazine reports about a new boutique hotel a block from Union Square, the city’s center for fashionable shopping. It’s also on the edge of the Financial District and Chinatown. Hotel des Arts specializes in showcasing contemporary work by emerging and underground local artists in each of its 51 suites.

With full autonomy — except painting carpets — Hotel Des Arts’ concept rooms are an artist’s dream project. “You get a key to a room, you lock yourself in there for however long it takes to finish, and no one says sh**. You can’t ask for much more than complete control,â€? said Anthony Skirvin, whose recently completed Room 307.
