Turning Blue Skies Green: British Airways and SAS Offer Carbon-Offset Fees

Ever since “An Inconvenient Truth” hit the movie theatres, more companies are opening their hazel eyes to the benefits of going green. The latest two are British Airways and Scandanavian Airlines System, who have just created programs that let their passengers pay carbon-offset fees to help fund clean technology projects.

Pretty savvy, I’d say. My colleague Henry Harteveldt, industry analyst in the San Francisco office of Forrester Research, says “Europe has been further ahead in terms of being environmentally responsible. It’s something we’d like to see more of. Consumers probably feel it’s the company’s responsibility to address the environmental impacts of their industry, not theirs.”
