Slumber Parties for Grown-Ups :: The Curtis Hotel, Denver
It’s been decades since my last slumber party, but the fun deals at Denver’s The Curtis Hotel make me want to call my BFF, dig out the Ouija board and stay up all night talking about boys.
The funky, year-old downtown hotel known for its emphasis on pop culture kitsch is offering two great options for grown-up girls. The “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” package gets you ready to go out and takes care of you when you stumble back in. It includes one night’s accommodations for four in the British Invasion suite, unlimited in-room movies, late-night pizza delivery, in-room make-up and manicure services and a morning hangover kit. The package is $695 per room
“Glamour Shots” packages make you want to stay in: overnight accommodations for four on the Chick Flick floor, one in-room shot of tequila for each guest, unlimited in-room movies, a bunch of junk food such as popcorn, candy, chips, cookies and soft drinks, plus a disposable camera to record the festivities. That package is $295 per room.
The Curtis offers 336 rooms on pop culture-themed floors that include nods toward Baby Boomer childhood, adolescent and post-college memories such as Doublemint Gum, Star Wars, Howard Cosell, Fred Flintstone, Elvis, The Shining (13th floor, of course) and Top Gun. There’s even a Big Hair floor that would probably revive memories of perms and Sun-In that I’d rather leave buried.
There’s a VW beetle-shaped alarm clock, a house robot greeting guests in the lobby and a 5 & Dime store selling retro toys, candy and soda. Anyone remember Bubble Up soda? It’s there.
