Oh Say, Can You Ski?: Loveland, CO Opens US Ski Season
A few weeks ago, we wrote about ski jumping on San Francisco’s hills on 200 tons of artificial snow. Now, we’ve got the real thing as the US ski season opened yesterday for the sixth straight year in the Loveland Ski Area, Colorado. The resorts where I ski most in California and Nevada don’t usually open until mid-late November for Thanksgiving. But the higher altitude in the Rocky Mountain State makes it possible to ski earlier.
According to an article at CNN.com Travel: “It was a little bit icy for the first run, but it warmed up. There were no rocks showing anywhere,” said Ken Rosendale, 73, a skier for 57 years who has often been at Loveland for opening day.
