Ho Ho Ho-ing it in NYC over the holidays:: girlfriend getaway, pt 2

The Kimberly

Another East Side lovely, this European-style boutique hotel was also recently renovated resulting in homey, spacious suites (many are 650 sq. ft with high ceilings) with all sorts of thoughtful niceties. It feels very nesty, like you’re staying in a friend’s home (albeit one who married very well!). Sweet location just a few blocks from Rockefeller Center, some classic shopping (Saks, Lord & Taylors) and the Theater District.

The elegant suites come in a variety of styles ranging from a sophisticated zen decor to a luxurious, Renaissance look with rich brocades and gilded mirrors. Some offer full kitchens-perfect for extended stays, while others use the space for immense marble bathrooms with Jacuzzi tubs and separate rain-showers.
I was thrilled with the incredible views from our private balcony, my comfy cloud-like bed with Frette linens, and the mini-kitchen with (hallelujah) a coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator.

Girlfriend Getaway Bonus Points:

-The bathroom not only had two sinks and make-up mirrors but also TWO hairdryers, so for once we were both ready on time.
– HUGE walk-in California Closets
– Gracious touches abound like complimentary bottled water, complimentary internet in the biz center, complimentary membership at the New York Health & Racket Club, even an in-room electric shoe-shiner.
– Excellent layout for two people since there are French doors closing off the bedroom from the living room with 42-inch plasma-screen televisions in both rooms.

G.G. Hot Tip:

Head upstairs to “Upstairs,” -the brand new rooftop restaurant and lounge offering a 3,000 square foot space (with retractable glass ceilings for warm weather) offering a birds-eye 360-degree view of midtown Manhattan. It had just opened during our stay so they were offering complimentary (they’re big on that word here) wine and cheese in the evening.

Double points for this unique offering:

From May through September, guests of The Kimberly Hotel may enjoy a complimentary sunset cruise or Sunday brunch cruise (for an additional $20) along the scenic East River and around lower Manhattan on the Kimberly Yacht.
