Call Me A Cab: California Wines Again Win Taste-Off Vs. French

We’ve got legs and we know how to use them. That’s the bottom line on a taste-off yesterday of California wines vs. French in a cross-continental contest of wines that have matured for three decades.

The occasion was 30th anniversary of May 24, 1976, , AKA “The Judgment in Paris” or the “slosh heard round the world.” Any wine aficionado knows that was the day French and British judges declared that a 1973 Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars S.L.V. Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon had outscored its French competitors. The results were published in a Time Magazine story, and the California wine movement hasn’t looked back.

Yesterday, California wines took the first five slots, Bordeaux garnered numbers six through nine, and another Cal Cab was tenth. Read the story on SF Gate.
