Manhattan-Style Shopping :: Barneys New York Now Open in San Francisco

After what seems like years of hammering, pile driving and stopping traffic, Barneys New York opened today in San Francisco’s most famous shopping area, Union Square. It takes over the iconic I. Magnin Builiding at 48 Stockton Street, one block from the Powell Street Cable Car, with 60,000 square feet over six floors.

Barneys New York is not a place to find a $20 sweater or $50 pair of pants. It’s pricey, pretentious, intimidating and fun. I once bought a tone-on-tone shirt at Barneys New York and paid through the nose for it, but I could proudly say I shopped at Barneys (and I hate to shop!).
