All Aboooard The Aberporth Express :: Wales

You’ve left quirky about three stops behind when you book a stay in this unique sleeper coach, Wendy – The Aberporth Express, charmingly named after the character in Peter Pan, which was published a year before the carriage was built in 1905.

This former Great Western Railway sleeping carriage has been relocated to its final resting place alongside a walking path in Wales, with gorgeous views of the Ceredigion Heritage Coast. Before it’s retirement in 1937, it chugged the length of the Great Western line between England and Wales.

Wendy is sporting her original 1930s Oak dining suite and a few other period pieces although the kitchen and bathroom have been modernized.

The Aberporth Express offers one of the best opportunities to see Europe’s largest colonies of bottle-nose dolphins, as well as porpoises and grey seals. If you have a pole, you can catch sea bass and mackerel from the rocks in front of the carriage and fry up a fresh fish dinner. A short walk will bring you to the local grocery and the village pub.
