Yo Tengo Yoga :: Relax and Learn in Mexico

Two-for-one deals always get my attention. This one’s an unusual combination that mixes two interests of mine: Via Yoga’s Spanish Immersion and Yoga Retreat in March.

Seattle-based Via Yoga (www.viayoga.com) is offering a six-day retreat to learn Spanish and practice Yoga in the central-west Mexican beach town of Sayulita, just north of Puerto Vallarta.

Each day offers Spanish classes — one for beginners and one for intermediate students — they include conversations, readings, even games. The daily language class is book-ended by two yoga classes with instruction in both Spanish and English. The morning class focuses on core work and breath awareness while the afternoon class is slower paced and restorative.

The March 20-26 retreat includes lodging in Villa Amor’s open-air accommodations and most meals. But the week isn’t all conjugations and muscle control. There’s time to relax on the beach or explore the increasingly gallery-laden town of Sayulita. Rates, not including airfare, start around $2,100 and vary according to the type of lodging selected.

The Spanish and Yoga retreat is the only one of its kind offered by Via Yoga, which hosts several strictly Yoga retreats, Yoga and Surfing retreats and a week of Pilates classes.
