The Streets of San Francisco: City Guides Walking Tours

Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travels voted it “one of the 20 secret bargains of San Francisco.” National Geographic Traveler called it “one of San Francisco’s top attractions.” And SFWeekly.com said San Francisco City Guides was the “Best Walking Tour.” Best of all, these three dozen tours are FREE (but donations are welcome).

As a third-generation San Franciscan, I’ve always enjoyed walking through the City’s ecletic neighborhoods. Now you can do it, too, with a guide like my mother’s friend Dorothy or my old buddy Greg, who volunteer their time to lead walks seven days a week, rain or shine.

Their brochure says “The Heart and Soul of San Francisco is just steps away.” The lively, anecdotal walks are fun, informative and… I’ll say it again… FREE! Most walks last 90 minutes to 2 hours and hit every neighborhood within SF’s 49 square miles: Chinatown, the Castro, the Art Deco Marina, Coit Tower Murals, Golden Gate Bridge, Haight Ashbury, and many more.

This 27-year-old non-profit organization is a program of the SF Public Library and a project of the Tides Center. For more info, call 415.557.4266 or visit San Francisco City Guides.
