What can you say about a dinner theatre that appeals to kids and adults, corporate groups, bachelor and bachelorette parties, plus everyone in between? Teatro ZinZanni is an experience to truly experience. Described as “the Kit Kat club on acid,” and “the place where the Moulin Rouge meets Cirque du Soleil,” it’s now in its third year of continuous run in Seattle and has been in San Francisco since 2000. TZ is a unique form of entertainment with a gourmet five-course feast, non-stop live acts and audience participation.
In San Francisco, Sally Kellerman has played the role of “Madame Zinzanni”. So has Grammy winner Thelma Houston and I saw Joan Baez play the role a few years ago. Their ads call it “Love, Chaos & Dinner” in SF and “Love and Dreams” in Seattle, but it’s even grander that that with three hours of entertainment, great dining and hilarious shenanigans.
Teatro ZinZanni combines some of the world’s most renowned cirque artists, contortionists, aerial artists, jugglers and illusionists with live music from a five-piece band and a terrific meal. Even the waiters are part of the act as TZ breaks new artistic territory with an intoxicating blend of interactive theatre, spectacle, fine arts and fine dining, put together under the artistic direction of One Reel’s Norman Langill.
The meal featured a delicious Antipasto Plate, Soup, Greek Salad, choice of five entrees (including a Vegan entree on a special menu), Ginger Peach Mousse Ice Cream Sandwich, and Coffee or Tea.
For the pre-fixe meal and hours of live entertainment, Teatro ZinZanni is actually a bargain. Prices in San Francisco are $110 for Sundays through Thursdays; $135 for Fridays and Saturdays. Doors open 30 minutes in advance. Show times in SF are 6:30 on all nights except 5:30 on Sundays.
