The Ham-It-Up Hamlet: Smithfield, VA

In the Ham Capital of the World, do the town’s people really hang pigs on their Christmas trees? Sure do. But I didn’t believe it til I read it, either.

Best known as the town that created the famous Smithfield Ham, a salt-cured, red-hued delicacy, this hamlet celebrates an old-fashioned Christmas. In fact, last Saturday, there was an old-fashioned Christmas parade like you see in those old B/W movies.
