Taste Château Pétrus Red Wine

Château Pétrus, selling for $1,500 per bottle in current release, is probably the world’s most expensive red wine. All the wines of the Pomerol region of Bordeaux are expensive as compared to the better-known Grand Crus Classé wines of the Médoc-Ch. Margaux, Ch. Latour, Ch. Lafite and many others. These grand wines, perhaps the finest Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines in the world cost only a modest $365. Neighboring Château Cheval Blanc’s current release is just $329, although its price soars in the best vintage years.

It is still a mystery what are the reasons behind the fact that wines of Pomerol and Château Pétrus in particular are outrageously priced. Definitely the typical market factors play an enormous role. There are not several products in the market and many wealthy wine lovers who will pay whatever these wines cost. However, there are many other reasons behind it. The geographical location of the vineyard of Château Pétrus is unique, even among the vineyards of Pomerol and St. Emilion.
