Something Old, Something Bold: Hotel Godin, Montreal
Gwyneth Paltrow slept here. So can you if you’ve got $200 – $500 Canadian. At this great rate, the Hotel Godin in Montreal is very affordable for US and European travelers who want something hip, splashy and sassy. It’s a boutique hotel, a designer hotel, a 4-star hotel, and a lot more for a lot less than you usually pay for all these amenities.
It’s a beautiful pair of buildings located between downtown Montreal and the Plateau district. One was built in 1915 (the Edifice Godin); the other opened early this year (the Contemporary). The lobby connects to a terrific, quite spacious in-hotel gym. But the rooms are the big whoop with huge king-sized beds, Egyptian cotton sheets, 27″ TVs with flat screens, Internet access, spa robes, downtown views, and bathrooms with all kinds of cool fixtures. By the way, if you’re heading to Montreal, don’t forget the Montreal International Jazz Festival from June 30 – July 10, featuring top talent such as Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) and barefoot diva Cesaria Evora; 888.515.0515.
