Sneakerheads and Splendid Shoes: Niketown, San Francisco

Anyone who loves basketball worships Michael Jordan, perhaps the most exciting player the game has ever seen. (In my humble opinion, Kobe couldn’t hold Jordan’s jockstrap.)

Air Jordan designer sneakers were so popular that Nike is reissuing some vintage pairs for $295 for two pairs. Only 36 sets of AIr Jordan VI Retro and the Air Jordan XI Retro are being sold in a gold box called the Defining Moments Pack at Niketown in SF — and so-called Sneakerheads have camped out at Union Square for a week to pony up the big bucks to buy them. Values at online auctions for the shoes are in the $500 – $600 range. Fanatics? Ya think?
