Small Plates, Big Tastes :: Picco, Larkspur (SF Bay Area)

We met our friends Michael and Susan at Picco last weekend. This newish place is spacious, warm and friendly with a brick and wood setting. That alone would make you want to eat there. But the food is absolutely amazing because it offers local, seasonal, ingredient-driven plates with all ingredients grown or harvested within the San Francisco Bay Area.

We ordered and shared five small plates — the ahi tuna tartare with Asian pear, shiso, sesame and soy on toast points was to die for — sweet, succulent and a huge taste for a small bite. Then we inhaled the baby lettuces salad with Marcona almonds, organic strawberries, Greek Feta cheese, accompanied by a roasted pepper viniagrette dressing. Next, we tried the baby brocolli risotto — interesting texture and sumptious, as well. This was followed by linguini with fresh cracked crab — also fantastic. Finally, we thoroughly enjoyed every morsel of the avocado bruchetta.

Picco has a deep and eclectic wine list and lots of cool specialty drinks, as well. In all, it’s a very reasonably priced getaway if you want to enjoy an evening in the relative warmth of Larkspur, just 15 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge.
