Small Batches With Great Big Tastes :: Spoon & tbsp, New York City

Spoon & tbsp There’s a small food company in New York City called Spoon. What began as a catering company blossomed into a storefront and lunch spot called tbsp. Owner and culinary maverick Melissa Chmelar believes that fresh, local ingredients and quality recipes equal culinary success.

I’ve tried their Blueberry Small Batch Jam twice. It’s delicious on bread with peanut butter. But it’s even better on fresh out-of-the-skillet French Toast that seems to enhance the flavors of the fruit and sugar mixture — no preservatives like you get with store-bought jams from big name companies.

Spoon’s retail store opened mid-September and is holding court daily with Manhattanites in the Chelsea and Meatpacking Districts who savor its fresh produce, meats and fish, as well as muffins, sweet and savory treats, and other desserts.

tbsp offers freshly made spoon salads, handmade sandwiches, hot paninis, entrees, soups, crunchy snacks, and more.

If you are stuffed from breakfast or lunch, take home some of the full line of frozen entrees, baking mixes, home canned sauces, even condiments, relishes, rubs, and of course, those small batch jams.
