Rustic Elegance: Post Hotel & Spa, Lake Louise, Alberta

We received a first hand review from a couple that recently journeyed east for an upscale stay at the stately Post Hotel & Spa, which borders picturesque Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada, offering a gorgeous ski lodge, pampering spa, award-winning Gourmet Magazine-heralded restaurant, and much more.

Originally built in 1942, the Post resonates with the spirit of its colourful founder, Sir Norman Watson. Today, its current Swiss-born owners, brothers André and George Schwarz, were raised to appreciate good food, good wine and good company, while promoting Canadian Rockies skiing.

The hotel belongs to Relais & Châteaux, the world’s most prestigious hotel group. Our friends said the staff was ever so friendly; the room was rustic, yet luxurious and elegant; the bathroom was huge and stuffed with Aveda products; the room offered a gorgeous fireplace, turn-down service, and a bed that was as comfy as the pillows.

Gourmet Magazine’s annual issue of the world’s best hotels has chosen the Post Hotel as the 3rd Best Rustic Retreat in the World. So it was no surprise that the Post Hotel’s famous restaurant served up great service and delicious food, from Beef Tenderloin to Porterhouse Steaks to Maine Lobster.

Further proof of this wonderful restaurant’s pedigree: the Post Hotel offers an award-winning wine cellar featuring over 28,500 bottles and more than 1500 selections. The Post Hotel is also a Four Diamond award winner and Dirona recipient (Distinguished Restaurants of North America).

The hotel’s Temple Mountain Spa offers private, serene treatments and services that incorporate:
• The warm, soothing caress of pure oxygenated water.
• The healing touch of caring, expert hands.
• The aroma of exotic oils and lotions.
• And tranquil, comforting surroundings.

They also said the grounds were spectacular, though it was a bit too chilly to do any serious browsing. With a setting beside Lake Louise, it all looks as pretty as a painting.
