Floating Art: Queen Mary Art Deco Festival, Long Beach

I stayed on the Queen Mary years ago when it was first converted from a cruise ship to a floating hotel in Long Beach, CA. Built in 1936, it was one of the last great ocean liners from the era when they crossed the sea in luxury and the word POSH was coined to describe “Port Out, Starboard Home.” Now, it’s host to an Art Deco Festival, complete with a ball, tea dance, bazaar, car show, walking tours and a film festival. The hopefully first annual event will be September 2-5. More info: www.queenmary.com or call 562.433.3511.
