Pooch Power + Cross-Country Skiing: Skijoing

Since we’re blogging about Iditarod Races, why not try something different with your own dog, a pair of cross-country skis and the nearest open field? “Skijoring” is the newest sport from Scandanavia. You just hook your own dog — preferably 25 lbs. or heavier — into a special harness, attach the bungee link to the harness and the skijoring belt to your hips.

When your dog mushes, he/she pulls you through the snow on your skis, making you a human snowplow. The hardware costs about $175 and you supply your own XC skis while Mother Nature supplies the snow.
