Palm Springs Food & Wine Fest Goes Green!

‘Tis the season and decade for green — even for festivals. The Palm Springs Food and Wine Festival, April 12-14 in downtown Palm Springs, is showing its cool colors. The event will be powered by Akeena Solar’s Mobile Solar Power Station and tastings will be served with eco-friendly plates, cups and napkins. All are made from recycled paper products or made from biodegradable corn, rice, sugar or other agricultural products.

Palm Springs Disposal Services, who is launching a new single stream recycle program in July, will provide recycle containers and roll-off bins.

But let’s get on to the business of food and wine! Here are some of the highlights of the festival:

Friday, April 11, 6-9 PM
Spa Resort Casino
Celebrity VIP Event at the Cascade Lounge

Calistoga’s Chateau Montelena will provide tastings of their premium vintages paired with cuisine from cooking demonstrations by Executive Chef Paul Woods of the Steakhouse Spa Resort Casino and Camelot Cafe’s Executive Chef Hector Salvatierra. There will also be a live auction and tastings from Cafe Boheme’s premium coffee liquor. Tickets are $175 and include admission to the April 12 Grand Tasting.

Saturday, April 12, 2-8 PM
Spa Resort Casino
Grand Tasting Event in tented pavilions

Celebrity chef demonstrations, wine tasting and creatively paired cuisine featuring wines and foods from North and South America along with tastings of Native American cuisine. There are also Taste of Europe and Pan Pacific pavilions along with a Cigar Aficionado Lounge with complimentary cigars, lighters and cutters. Tickets are $85.00.

Saturday, April 12, 7-10 PM
Spa Resort Casino
Viceroy Bubble and Groove Lounge

Enjoy Piper-Heidsieck Champagne along with cuisine from the Viceroy Palm Springs and Santa Monica Seafood. Live DJ performances in a retro venue. Tickets are $25 with the purchase of a Grand Tasting ticket or $45 ala carte.

Sunday, April 13, 11 AM – 2 PM
Hotel ZOSO
Downtown Palm Springs

Hotel ZOSO is hosting the “Z” Wrap Party featuring cooking demonstrations by ZOSO’s own CIA Graduate, Chef Juan Leon. Champagne by Piper-Heidsieck and beer from Stella Artois. Poolside tasting stations with live entertainment. Tickets are $25.00 with the purchase of a Grand Tasting ticket or $45 ala carte.

The Palm Springs Food & Wine Festival benefits the Culinary Institute of America and the Desert AIDS Project.
