Outstanding in the Field was born in 1999 when self-taught Chef Jim Denevan, executive chef of Santa Cruz’s Gabriella, dreamed up his concept of dining right in the heart of the soil that nourishes the food alongside the farmers, food producers and local winemakers associated with the meal.
The alfresco dinners begin with a tour of the hosting farm followed by a multi- course, farm-style dinner served at one long linen-covered table. The “meet & greet your producers” dinners have become so popular that in 2009 Outstanding in the Field will offer 54 events held in 10 states and Eastern Canada. Many events are already sold out so you better hurry to score a seat.
