In The Pink After 80 Years: Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Honolulu

When you fly into Oahu, you can spot the world famous Diamond Head crater and Waikiki Beach. And along that stretch of sand, the first hotel you see is the Royal Hawaiian, AKA the “Pink Palace of the Pacific” –– now celebrating its 80th anniversary.

There will be a year-long series of festivities, including an art exhibit by the Matson Navigation Company from now through April 30, set up in its lower lobby to honor its rich history dating back to 1927.

The Spanish-Moorish-inspired hotel ushered in a new era of luxurious resort travel to Hawaii. The hotel was sold in 1974 to Kyo-ya Company, Ltd., with Starwood Hotels and Resorts continuing to operate it under a long-term management contract.
