Ice Cream, You Scream: Belizza Açaí Sorbet

I spent a summer as a Soda Jerk in a Fisherman’s Wharf ice cream shop during college. (Some have dropped the “soda” when they address me, but that’s another story…)

Anyway, it taught me the difference between great ice cream and iced crap. Now, there’s a new so-called superfood that’s available as a low-fat, non-dairy sorbet. The açaí (ah-sigh-EE) palm berry fruit from the Amazon rainforest is supposedly higher in antioxidants than blueberries or pomegranates.

Belizza Açaí Sorbet uses açaí pulp, which tastes like blackberry and chocolate-covered blueberry, as the base for its three flavors: açaí, mango and banana. Cost: $4.50-$5 per pint, where available.
