Hotel Albergo Villa Marta :: Lucca, Italy

An absolutely picturesque setting located in the heart of a typical Mediterranean Landscape where vibrant hills and cool woods offer an alternative to the traditional and geometric olives groves.

A couple of miles outside the ancient walled city of Lucca, you’ll find the Hotel Albergo Villa Marta, a 19th-century hunting lodge lovingly restored by its husband-and-wife owners into an intimate 11-room guest house, surrounded by so many of the classic trappings of rural Tuscany that it almost seems like a put-on: rolling hills, sprawling vineyards, landscaped gardens and even a view of the San Cerbone convent.

Guest rooms are traditional in style, some with exposed beams, others with frescoed ceilings, and all furnished in a restrained antique style, not precious but just elegant. And these rooms are all new: beneath the classic veneer you’ll find modern fixtures and conveniences, including, on the ground floor, disabled-access rooms. Tablet Hotels

We spent 2 nights at Albergo Villa Marta with our friends, Albany, who had been extolling its virtues to us over the last year. We have come to know Tuscany quite well recently but we have certainly now discovered the best location for any future holidays in the region. Villa Marta was everything that we hoped it would be; tranquil, elegant, beautifully furnished and with a strong personal touch from the charming owners. It is set in its own lovely grounds in a haven of calm tranquility and yet less than 10 minutes by taxi to Lucca and little more than 20 minutes to Pisa. Our only regret was having so little time at the hotel to appreciate all that it offers to travellers looking to unwind from the pace of daily life. We would strongly recommend Villa Marta and will be sure to use it again as our main base for exploring the region. Outstanding.
