The Lowdown on a New High Rise Hotel :: Intercontinental, San Francisco

The details are staggering… 32 stories high. 550 rooms. $195 million. Translucent blue glass skin. San Francisco Bay, Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge views. Flat-screen in-room plasma TVs. A 5,000-foot spa. A terrific SoMa 5th & Howard Streets address, adjacent to Moscone Center and a a few blocks from Nordstrom’s and Bloomies in the Westfield Shopping Center.

Put them all together and it spells Intercontinental Hotel, part of a 21-hotel chain in the US. Now planning five more hotels, hey already own S.F. landmark — the Mark Hopkins on Nob Hill. This new one, due to be finished in January 2008 will hold 43,000 square feet of meeting space, a California Italian restaurant, and much, much more.
