Ho Ho Ho-ing it in NYC over the holidays:: girlfriend getaway, pt 4
The posh European-style lobby sets the tone here, shimmering with crystal and marble and some amazing Louis XVI furniture. This oh-so-civilized East Side hotel is located on a dignified tree-lined side street surrounded by demure townhouses just a block from Central Park.
It was in the midst of major renovation (the restaurant was closed as well as the fitness center when I was visiting so I can’t report on those) but the rooms I saw were HUGE by any standards. We’re talking big-buck townhouse-style suites that measure over 2,000 square feet! Perfect for extended stays or for a whole gaggle of your best gal-pals to hang out in.
Every room has unique furnishings but the common theme is European grandeur with boutique intimacy. Many have large balconies plus cozy solariums, which provide a perfect spot for settling in for a good read.
G.G. Bonus Points:
– Private business center with complimentary internet access
– The best towels and plushest robes in town.
– Friendly service by the whole staff. When I whined about not having a coffee maker, they immediately delivered an espresso maker with all the fixings.
Cute touch: The General Manager’s seven year-old daughter, Sophie, has lived in the hotel since she was born (like a real-live Eloise at the Plaza) and they are considering writing a book about her escapades.
GG Hot Tip:
Check out their tempting Valentine’s Day specials-complete with romantic rose petal turndown, breakfast in bed, even a La Perla gift bag.
